HIS XOX-STOP SWIM. Two Xejroes in New York were bragging about their ability as long-distance swimmers, and a local sportsman arranged a match. The man who swam the longest distance was to receive flve doUars. The Alabama Whale changed immediately, but the Ilnman Steamboat said he had to attend to some business, and would return In a few minutes. The Whale swam around for twenty minutes for exercise, and by that time the Human Steamboat had returned. He bad a sheet-iron cooking stove strapped on his back. Tied around his neck were a dozen packages, containing bread, flour, bacon, and other eatables. The Whale at his opponent in amazement. "W'har .to' vittles?"" demanded the Human Steamboat. "Vittles fo' what?"' asked the Whale. '•Don't yo' ask mc fo'nothin" on the war ovah,' warned the Human Steamboat. •Oiah fust stop is London.'
