BOXING.
The outstanding feature of the recent conference of boxing association delegates in Auckland is the change of control from that of eolf-nontrolled associations with the New Zealand Council exercising a benevolent paternal oversight, and possibly missing a few of its children s peccadilloes, to the system of local control by centre committees as obtains in the athletic and swimming sports. This means that the oversight of individual associations will be much closer than it has been in the past Several other changes in the management of the sport have bee,, decided upon. One tbat will affect the New Zeaand Boxing Association is the decision that all amateur bouts must be decided by two judges and a referee, with the referee outside the ring. Of late year.. in Auckland the practise has been for a referee alone to officiate and to work inside: the ring. Another change is the reduction of the .purse limit for resident professional boxers from £250 and t.)O expenses, to .£2OO, including expenses. The percentage tax on professional purses was also raised from 2i to 5 per cent. The limit of amateur prizes has been slightly increased, and it ha* been made allowable for the runnerg . u „ in all but the fly and lightweight classes in the island championships to compete a* Urn _>i.w Zealand championship*
