NEW FEDERAL CRISIS.
OVER PRICE OF SUGAR. TWO CENSURE MOTIONS. LABOUR AND COUNTRY ATTACKS. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, August 10. The most serious Federal political crisis of the session has arisen over the sugar question. As soon as the House of Representatives met to-day, Mr. M. Charlton, Leader of the Labour party, gave notice of motion "That the Government be severely censured for referring sugar transactions to the Public Accounts Committee before disposing of certain amendments which have been moved and thereby delaying decision on the question of immediately reducing the price of sugar." Dr. Earl Page, Leader of the Country party, then moved: "That in view of the failure of the Government to supply information regarding its dealings in sugar as promised for August 9 to enable the House to determine the proper reduction in the price of sugar, the Government no longer holds the confidence of the House." The House adjourned till Friday. There was no consultation between the Country and Labour parties prior to launching the motions.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) QUEENSLAND FINANCE. HOBART. this day. Mr. J. B. Hayes has been chosen leader of the new Government. Other portfolios were balloted for, and resulted: Mr. Lee, Treasurer; Mr. McPhee, Chief . Secretary; Mr. Blythe, Lands; Mr. Hean. x Honorary Minister. The new Government expects a majority of five in a total membership of 29. The Minietrp was chosen by a joint meeting of the National and Country parties.
