The Irish rebels have been driven from Cork, and have now evacuated the city. Prior to evacuation they blew up the military barracks, the Victoria Hotel, the newspaper offices, and other buildings. An official bulletin, describing the Cork success, points out that the irregulars were taken on all sides. Troops under the command of Major-General Dilton landed in small boats from vessels which came close to the shore. The Free State troops, notwithstanding fire from the shore, quickly reached j their positions, whence they replied to their opponents. A landing was also effected, in Youghal Passage. ENDING THE RESISTANCE. The Dublin correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" reports that the Free State army is making good progress in Southern Ireland, and is carrying out movements which it is expected will end the rebels' resistance in a few days. The rebels have been driven out of Abbeyfeale and DrumcoUoghan, their last stronghold in. Limerick. The Irish Trade Union Congress unanimously decided that if the Dail Eirann be not convoked before August 26 as a step preliminary to ending the existing fratricidal strife the Labour deputies will meet their constituencies and resign. Irregulars waiting in ambush at Ballina, Tipperary, were surprised by a sudden bombardment, and fled to the mountains, leaving ten of their leaders and eight men in the hands of the Free State troops.—(A. and N.Z.
