WELLINGTON WATERFRONT RAILWAY.
» DEMAND FOR REMOVAL. As the running of a train service to Te Aro seems to be a lost cause, nothing is gained by leaving the rails on Jervois quay, says the "Evening Post" of Wellington. The quay at present consists of three strips—on the one side a woodblocked and well-kept street surface, belonging to the City Council; on the other side a similar street surface belonging to the Harbour Board; between them, an ill-kept Government strip which is neither a railway nor a street, and which is not used but is abused by the Department of Railways. Having failed to preserve the railway to Te Aro and extend it to the deep water of the eastern suburbs, the Government might at least cease also to disfigure one of the most imoortant streets of the Capital City.
