THE GENERAL ELECTION.
MANAWATU SEAT. MR. E. NEWMAN RETIRING. The Shannon "News" of recent date reports that Mr. Edward Newman, who has represented Manawatu in Parliament for a number of years, has intimated his intention of withdrawing from polities, and will not lie a candidate at the coming election. The Reform party is now considering the Felection of a successor as candidate for Manawatu. Two other candidates are definitely announced, viz.. Mr. W. Murdoch, Mayor of Shannon, in the Liberal interest, and M.T. F. D Whitley, of Foxton, the selected Labour candidate. THE MASTERTON SEAT. It was recently announced that Mr. Hollings, S.M., was resigning the Magistracy to contest the Masterton seat. The "Manawatu Times" says:—"We are now able to state that Mr. Hollings lias reconsidered his decision and will not stand." THE WESTLAND SEAT. A TRIANGULAR CONTEST. (By Telegrnph. —Press Association.) OHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. Mr. VV. Jeffries, of Hokitika, it is understood, will contest the Westland seat for the Reform party. Mr. T. E. Y. Seddon, the present member, will contest the seat in the Liberal interests, and Mr. F. Tairley will be nominated by rto Labour party. I =====
