The death is recorded of Sister Edith, Mother Superior of the Anglican Community of the Sacred Name in Christchurch. It was she who trained that devoted body of sisters and associates now carrying on such splendid work amongst women and girls in the Christchurch Diocese. Dignan of this city. At the next general meeting of the Christchnrch branch of the National Council of Women Mrs. T. E. Saltburn Road, Milford, gave a successful jazz evening last Saturday on behalf of the Takapuna School Fete. A very enjoyable evening was spent, and a guessing competition got up during the evening was won by Mise Gee. The meeting of the Civic League on Wednesday evening promisee to he very interesting. The fifth annual tiaii given by the Auckland Law Students' Society was held on Friday evening in the Scots' Hall, Symonds" Street. The beautiful hall made a fine setting for all the young dancers, and the subdued lighting was more effective than much decoration could be. During the dancing the lights on the stage were played upon the floor and a (series of colour pictures given, while the stage itself was used as a lounge for the non-dancer?. AT HOME. A reception and "At Home" was given in Saturday evening to the members of the Auckland branch of the Federation iif New Zealand University Women by Ilia president, Dr. Hilda Northcroft. The function was held in the rooms of the Women's Club, which were tastefully decorated for the occasion with violets and yellow mimosa. In welcoming her guests Dr. Northcroft dwelt on the fact that there were such a large number of university women in tho city and yet they vrere no power. Thero were so many things with which they should deal, and it -was only by combimninn that this could be accomplished. It was great wish that the university women of Auckland should rouse themselves and assert thoir influence instead of letting it lie fallow. Supper was spread in the luncheon room and during the evening a celebrities' competition was indulged in.
