EL ECU OX OF EXECUTIVE. 1 (By Telegrapn.—l-ress Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The ninth annual conference of the New Zealand Council of Agriculture was resumed to-day. Mr. J. D. Hall, the new president, being in the chair. An address was given by Major Belcher tin the purpose and aims of the British Empire Exhibition, to be held-in | 1024. j The conference adopted a recommendaI lion to inaugurate a Royal Agricultural i Society in the Dominion, for tne purpose of having the, first Royal Show in November, 1023. A proposal that the annual conference be held in the South Island and North Island alternatively was referred to the executive for careful consideration. The following remits were considered: (1) ""That Government be urged to take the necessary precautions to prevent the introduction of cattle tick into Taranaki by way of Mokau; that a considerable number ot cattle at the present time are being brought by this route, thereby causing anxiety in the districts.'' (From Taranaki.) (2) "That the Government be urged to immediately take similar steps to those taken in the I'nited States for the extermination in i New Zealand of cattle tick plague." (l-'rom Wairarapa and East Coast.) The lirst remit was withdrawn, the mover stating that Dr. Reakes had reassured them that the Department was taking every precaution in the matter. In regard to the second remit, Dr. Reakes (Director of Agriculture) said that, while the Department was doing all it could to bring tick under control, he would like to state that tick in NewZealand was nor a carrier disease like those in the United States and Australia. The remit was adopted. The following remit- were carried: — (1) "That the Agricultural Department be asked to confer with freezing companies in carrying out a practical test for frozen meat, especially beef": (2) "that the Government be requested to call in all brands and earmarks which have been duplicated, ami make n necessary reallotment": (:!i "that, in the opinion ot this conference, the mating and breeding of all stock shall lie considered"': (4) "that the attention of the Board ol Agriculture be drawn to the necessity ot conducting an extensive experiment in scientific'breeding of animals; that they consider and discuss this question with the Department of Agriculture, with the idea of starting such an experiment"': (.)) "that, considering the number of inferior rams offered for sale by stud brokers at ram fairs and other directions, that the difTcrent Flock Book Committees he requested to review the position and take definite action": (fi) "that it be a recommendation to all Agricultural and Pastoral Associations that any sheep disqualified for being unfairly shorn shall be branded with a distinguishing mark, and be disqualified for life": (7) '"that seed cleaners should be compelled to destroy or render innocuous all iiffal containing noxious offensive seeds.'' The election of members of the executive resulted as follows:—South Island: Messrs. XV. D. Pike. F. iVatson and the Hon. A. L. Hawke. North Island: Messrs. D. McGregor, G. L. Marshall and H. Y. Lcthbridge. Mr. E. F. Duthie was elected to the vacancy caused by the j elevation of Mr. J. D. Hall to the I presidency. I
