ASSESSMENT COURT.
BIKKSNHEAD VALUATIONS. OBJECTIONS BY THE COUNCIL. The Assessment Court commenced a sitting in Auckland this morning to deal with ninety-one objections by the Birkenliead Borough Council to Government valuations in the district. Mr. V. G. Day. S.M., presided, and the assessors were Messrs. K. Allen and H. Hadfield. Mr. A. M. Gould appeared for the Borough Council. The first ease concerned 1 rood 33 perches at the corner of Hinemoa and | Bath Streets, owned by Alexander i Keyes. The Department assessed the , value of the property as follows: Cap-i : tal value £1110, improvements f 30," and j unimproved value f 1080. The Council's ' figures were: £1270, £30 and £124(5, I I respectively. The Court eventually fixed j the vr.lue as £1200 (capital), £o0 (im- j provements), and £1170 (unimproved). \ The next objection was in regard to 22 acres 2 roods 11.5 perches in Beach Road, owned by Alex. C. Jarrett. The Department's valuation was £1545 capital, £645 improvements, and £!>OO unimproved. The Council assessed the values as £2025. £0-45, and £1330, respectively. The Court fixed the amounts at £1770, £045, and £1125. In the case of Charles Verron and Sons, 14 acres 1 rood 20 perches, in Vermont Street, Islington Avenue, etc.. the Department assessed the capital value at £2005, the improvements at ' £875, and the unimproved value at £1170. The Council set down the capital value as £3205, improvements £895, and the unimproved value £2400. The Court's finding was as follows: Capital value £2275, improvements £875, and unimproved value £1400. The hearing of the objections is proceeding.
