At Chicago a mob, including- many women, attacked the homes of the loyal workers, attempt- j ing to burn the buildings. The police drove off the rioters. The Governors of Alabama, Kansas, Missouri, and lowa have been requested to send troops to towns where mob violence is feared.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) OVER A MXEJJON ON STRIKE. SECONDARY TRADES MENACED WASHINGTON, July 7. The Labour Department has announced that 1,225,000 men are striking against the wage reductions. The coalminers number 725.000, textile workers 80.000, railwaymen 400,000, and smaller strikes 20,000. The Lahonr Department believes that if these strikes continue for any .■?ag'.h of time the workers in iho industries dependent upon the major industries will be thrown out of work. — (A. and N.Z.
