FUSION OF ELECTRIC CABLE.
A BRILLIANT FLAME.
At 9.49 last evening the City Fire Brigade received a call to the corner of Victoria and Nelson Streets It was mV^ 4 the Cit >" Council's electric cable had fused, and the flames were runnm up the pole at the point where tincable left the grctund and became an aerial wire. The effect w as brilliant and lit up the neighbourhood for a great distance The outbreak attracted the attention of a number of passers-by who were warned against gazing at the" light, and those who did not heed the caution most hkely felt the effect to-day of the severe strain on their eyes. The brigade used chemical extinguishers to suppress he flames and shortly after the section of the line was cut off by an electrician from the power house Th» damage was confined to the telegraph pole winch was badly burnt
