ATTEMPTED BURGLARY.
SAFE DAMAGES BY GELIGNITE.
BURGLARS' UNSUCCESSFUL MISSION.
Late on Saturday night or in the early hours of yesterday an attempt was made by burglars to "blow open the safe on the premises of J. Kershaw, Ltd., general merchants, 48, Pitt Street. Entrance was gained 'by means of smashing a pane of glass in a window which was locked from the inside, and the contents of the shop were subjected to a thorough searching. Gelignite was used in an effort to break the safe, but the force of the explosion merely damaged the safe. Evidently fearing that the noise of the explosion might possibly attract unwanted attention, the burglars made off after an unsuccessful visit.
During the last few months these premises have been burglariously enterec on three occasions.
