CELEBRATED MARE SOLD. LONDON, July 1. Lord Glanely has sold the brood mare Sceptre for 500gns, and she is to be shipped to Brazil. The mare had failed to breed of recent years. General regret is expressed over Sceptre being sold to leave England.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) Sceptre is one of the most celebrated mares of the English turf. As a yearling she was purchased for 10,000gns by Mr. R. S. Slevier, and was subsequently sold for 25,000gn5. Her winnings in stakes during her career on the turf totalled 38,230gn5.
