AUSTRALIANS BEAT AUCKLAk BY 4 TO 1. LOCAL TEAM OUTCLASSED. The big soccer match between the Australian representative touring team and the chosen of Auckland took place on 'Saturday at the Domain before an attendance of absut 3000 people. The result was a comparotively easy win for the visitors by 4 goals to 1 goal, in a game that was chiefly notable for 'the generally excellent combination of the Australians, who showed clever foot and head work, and delighted the crowd with their dasilng concerted tactics. Although heavy rain fell early in the afternoon, it" cleared off before the contest commenced, though thff sky remained overcast. The ground contained a number of small pools of water, and, In consequence, the arrangiil curtain-raisers were not played. However, the surface soon became very greasy, and was in a very sloppy condition, which to some extent hindered the play. However, the Australians, who were accorded a hearty reception, seemed to accommodate themselves quickly to the conditions, and with the advantage ot cohesion in their ranks they (rave a capital exhibition of the code. Knott taking control and putting the ball between the two full-backs, but was blocked badly. Auckland -were pressing when half-time was called. On resuming, Anckland went to the attack. Kent, senior grade referees. After their defeat by New Zealand in the first Test, at Dunedin, and their tie in the second Test, at Wellington. Australia's easy victory over the Auckland representatives, combined with their clever and I fast exposition, will serve to infuse much interest in the third test, to be played in Auckland next Saturd-ay.
