THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL.
VISIT TO CHATHAM ISLANDS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The GovernoT-General and Lady Jellicoe returned to Wellington yesterday from a visit to Chatham Islaixds. The voyage was made on H.M.s. Chatham. The ship arrived there at 0.45 a.m. on Wednesday morning, and after the local Stipendiary aMgistratc, Dr. Clayton, had made an official call on the Gover-nor-General on board, their Excellencies landed and received a hearty welcome. An address of welcome was presented by Dr. Clayton, and Lord .Jellicoe replied, expressing satisfaction at having an opportunity to visit the islands and meet the people there. He read a message to the people from Mj. Massey. The party visited different parts of the island. Lady Jellicoe presented the school children with toys, which she brought from Wellington for the purpose. A number of gifts were made to their Excellencies. The Chatham was thrown open for inspection by the inhabitants. Their Excellencies, about 4.30 p.m. returned to the ship and left for Wellington.
