A YOUTHFUL HIGHWAYMAN.
OFFICE STAFF ROBBED. (Received 1.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. While weekly wage payments: amounting to £340 were being arranged by several young women in an office at a knittingmill at Clunes. 80 miles northwest of Melbourne, a young man armed with a rifle entered the ofTioe, presented the weapon at the clerks and cried: "Don't resist." He took £100 and decamped. Several employees and townsfolk pursued him, when the youth suddenly turned and fired into the group, but no one was hit. Later the robber issued a manifesto to residents, in which he described himself as a bushranger, and announced in terms of bravado that he would not molest women, girls, ohildren or unarmed men who did not hinder him in his progress. Tie is armed with an automatic rifle, and has a quantity of ammunition.— (A. and S.Z. Cable.)
