DISCONTENTED EX-SOLDIERS.
N.S.W. SETTLEMENTS. MANY MEN LEAVING.
SYDNEY. May 23
One of the most depressing problems with which the new Government of New South Wales is faced is the seething discontent on some soldier settlements. The men are making sweeping complaints regarding alleged inefficient official administration, broken promises, aud want of necessary funds to tide over the earlier stages of settlement, and to develop the holdings. Considerable numbers have abandoned their holdings, disgusted with their treatment, and the barren outlook. Others are threatening to leave. A bad season has added to the difficulties of the position. Mr. F. A. Chaffey (AssistantMinister of Agriculture I is visiting the settlements and inquiring into complaints with a view to Government action to remove the causes of discontent. (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
