SHOCKING FATALITY.
MAN INJURED BY EXPLOSION, CRAWLS ONE MILE. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) DARGAYILLE, this day. A young man named Eric Smith, apred I 13, died at the hospital yesterdai from injuries caused by an explosion of gun powder at Mangatu on Sunday. Deceased, employed by a contractor in the district, was testing gunpowder, when a cask containing 501b exploded and in- , dieted terrible injuries on bis face j hands, legs, and buttocks. Smith w;is j alone in camp at the time of the ac-i dent, and he had crawled about a mile when he was found by his mates, who with the assistance of neighbour.-, con veyed him, over rough roads ;,.. Kaihu. where medical assistance mi- obtained. He was removed to the hospital, and : later was reported to be progressing; ! favourably. The shock, however, proved : too great, and he died as before stated.
