MOUNT ALBERT BOROUGH.

REVIEW OF YEAR'S WORK. The Mayor of Mount Albert (Mr. A. F. Bennett) made his first annual statement at the meeting of the council last evening. The policy adopted had been to concentrate on drainage and water reticulation in preference to permanent road construction, he said, leaving the hitter so until money became cheaper and the cost ot labour and materials became decreased. The only solution of the problem of the refuse tip was a destructor, and in that connection the forthcoming conference, with adjacent local bodies was awaited with much interest. The council had decided to take a poll to raise a sufficient sum to provide reticulation mains in all the streets. From a health point ot view, and also for the purposes fighting, this work wa-s very necessary. He was pleased to say that the overdraft on this account hnd been replaced by a credit balance of £236. With the exception of the general account and the water supply account, all accounts showed a credit balance. Outstanding liabilities totalled £lG4fi, to which had to be added the credit balance in builders' deposit accounts of £386, making a total chargeable under this 1-eading of £2032. He referred to the fact that the year's building operations were a record for the borough, and a record had also been established in the matter of percentage collected in rates. In the general account the total expenditure was £12,----257. and the receipts were .£13.217. The dp'bit balance had been reduced by £9"-!), and now stood at £1148.
