I _______ j A meeting of the Onehnnga Borough ; Council tvas held last night. There were present: Messrs. .1. Tark iMayori. J. E. » Cowell. P. R. Llpseombe, R. Ainsworth. C j O. Baker. E. Morton, T. Gilbert, J. Macklow, W. X. Mclntosh. Rates. -The following rates were struck for the ensuing year:—General rate of 3d ■ in the £. charitable aid Sd. ligbary id. light- - ing- gd. special loans ljjd, water <d. drainage ' l}d. The total income from all sources la estimated at £24,031. The estimates were framed to accord with the income, and to - pay off a debit balance from last year of 3 £710. The Charitable Aid levy is £1155 for j this year. I Scoria from Mount Smart.—lt was agreed to allow the One Tree Hill Road Board to > take what scoria is required from Xlonnt - Smart and to make good that portion of Mount Smart Road from the Onebung* boundary—that is. from Rockfleld Koad to Maurice Road, the board to find their own - labour and pay the council for working the ; pit. Also that the road board should contrihute towards the maintenance of the eastern nortion of Tawa Road and that portion of Rawhiti Road used by the board for > carting metal from their quarry. 1 Cemetery Fees.—The fees for digging graves in the cemeteries were fixed as under: For an adult. 30/: 7 years to 15 1 years. £1; under 7 years. ISA For each extra foot of depth per grave 5.'. For work , done on Sundays and all statutory holidays j 15/ extra. Fire council was advised •' that Mr. T. Gilbert was not disqualified as a ' councillor while acting as captain of the [ local fire brigade. Also that the chief officer of the fire bricrade should be the fire inspec--1 tor, as he takes full charge of all opera- ' tions at a fire. i Tenders.— Four tenders were received for I carting lOno yards of scoria from Mount Queen Street, as follows: A. McGuinness, ■ 3/9 per yard: W. J. Brain, 3 o; McCarten i Bros., 2'o: W. G. Tonng. 2,8.. Referred . to the engineer to report. Engineer's Authority rpheld.—Mr. E. Morton moved "That the council rescind the resolution authorising the borough ' engineer to prosecute offenders for breaches of the borough liy-laws. and that in futnre no prosecution take place before hem? authorised by the council." The resolution ■ was lost on the voices. T,oan Money.—The Auckland Savings Bank has agreed to lend the Onebunga Borough Council an additional £3.500 at 6i J Loan C of £35,000! NEW ITNS. The fortnightly meeting of the New Lynr ' Town Board was held last evening. There were present: Messrs. Geo. Lawson (chairman). S. Wildlne. F. Roberts, S. Sampson, K. Wright, and E. Stacey. Teaders.—Four tenders wera received for—. — team labour, but were deferred un:il next" meeting. Portage Road South.—The chairman reported that Mr. A. J. .Ten.kin had ouered to donate the sum of £23 towards the lost of metalling the unmetailed portion of the obove road, providing the work was commenced within tr. o months.
