BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the BirkenheiJ Borough Council was held last night. Tin Mayor Mr. J. W. Court, presided, ud Councillors Alfred Bartlett, Thos. Smith, Phil. H. Hayward, L. R. L. Moller, F. W. McCowan, Albert Hadfleld, E. C. Walton, and Eobt. Taylor were also present. Haurakl Street Culvert. —The Works Committee was empowered to carry out the worK necessary at the culvert in Haurakl Street, as advised by Mr. F. E. Powell, C.E., at in estimate* cost of £256, which included v ISm outfall pipe. The question of providing an apron or cesspit was left to the discretion of the committee. Growth on Streets.—The Birkdale Fruitgrowers' Association wrote expressing On opinion that the law re growth on streetl should not be enforced, and that the A»sodation would undertake to clear certain portions of roads. The Association wsJ thanked for its "splendid offer," and appreciation expressed relative to ite public epirit Surfacemen.—Mr. Christensen was appointed surfaceman for the Blrkdale talis from Verran's corner outwards, and Mr. ■Giles for the Toads in the other portion of the borough. Miscellaneous.—Mr. t>. Kirby wai appointed dangerous goods Inspector. TM foreman was asked to Teport concerning the complaint of Mr. H. 'Hoyland re storm water from Brassey vA Palmerston Koads flowing; to his proper?. The foreman was directed to fill in the ratt where required in Rangatlra Road, Jftißartlett advocating the cutting down of tw knoll as the most desirable improvement In regard to a communication from Ml. G. Tlzard aiid others re the condition of tlj roads fronting their properties in Weymontt Street, the foreman was requested to enpw separate estimates: (a) foT clearing dedicatee roads where required, and (b) for formlnj these roads. The Works Committee w»l empowered to act in the matter of preventins the storm water from damaging the are* nnder cultivation on Mr. Hilton's property. Reserve. —The report of the combined meeting of the Northcote Reserves and tie Blrkenhead Public Services Committees, Telative to Little Shoal Bay Reserve, was adopted. Authority was given for the preparation of a clause seeking general leaelnj powers when the next Washing-up Bill i» before Parliament. Works.—The foreman of works, Mr. T. Kirby, reported that the metalling of «* half of Hinemoa Street had been completeo 11 Arawa Street.
