A small farmer residing not far from Auckland was called upon to explain at the Magistrate's Court to-day why he had not paid a debt. His statement was that he was married 23 years ago. He was now a widower and had ten children. The man offered 5/ per month. Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M.. said he would not make any order, but leave it to the man to pay what he had offered. Bishop Liston's trial, with its consequent agitation and curiosity, has attracted the pertinacious pen" of "Bio," and the result may be seen in a full-page of sketches of witnesses, counsel, etc.. appearing in this week's "Observer," published this evening.
