SCHOOL STATIONERY.
AUCKLAND BOARD'S PROPOSAL. The Auckland Education Board intends to supply school stationery and school books to pupils at a minimum cost according to a statement made 'by Mr. E. C. Furdie, secretary of the board, at the quarterly meeting of the Auckland Educational Institute this morning. Mr. Purdie said that the board proposed at an early date to obtain a large supply of such requisites as foolscap, writing pads, blotting paper, drawing and exercise books, etc., which will 'be distributed among the schools: From calculations made it will effect a great saving to the parents of pupils. The - teachers would be asked to distribute the books and collect their cost from the pupils, and he wished to have an expression of opinion as to whether the teachers would assist. The chairman, Mr. H. S. Law, expressed approval of the scheme, which he thought could be worked without difficulty. A resolution assuring the board of the hearty support of the teachers was carried unanimously. •-——_-_^--_--._—-__»_■
