THE WAIPU RAILWAY.
<To the Editor.), Sir,—Waipu has at last been promised a railway, a branch from Oakleigh, but the Whangarei County Council rise in horror at the idea of progress coming to the North. Anti-progressive leagues have apparently reappeared in the guise of County Councils, and no wonder the ?Jorth is 50 years behind the times. A railway to Waipu will open up thousands of acres of rich and level country which hitherto has been useless owing to want of an outlet. The anti-progressives state that a road would suffice. A road from Waipu would certainly beneht Whangarei. Then everything would centralise on that township, but at the expense of the Waipu district.—l am, etc., N. MeG.
