EASTER MEETING. NOTES AND ANTICIPATION.!. (By Telegraph.—-P-necial to " Star.") CIrittSTCHL'UOII, this day. The Canterdmrv Jockey Club's Easter Meeting commences ou Monday next, and the moe-ina in all respects promises to he a great one. though the absence of North Island horses from the big events Is sure to detrn-t from interesl in tho meeting. The -Croat .Easter and Autumn Handicap" iliave 'been the sole topic of eon versa tion of late, and many are the doubles that have Ibeen selected by the allegedly shrewd ones. Rieearton-owned horses appear to ,be favoured more than they really should be or, the form they have shown In public. 'Silver Peak, which ran so well at Wellington, is well in the boom, and it is doubtful if one can pick a horse to beat her. The North Islander. Chimera, is very nmeh ifaneled. and _!ils horse must lie very hard to beat, hut Sliver IVak can stay every Inch of the seven rurlongs. and this distance may suit her better than (he Thompson Ilntidicap mile. I'ndcterrcil by this handicap (he club decided lo hold (he meeting as usual (his year. From a racing point of v.ew. although the balance-sheet may not show a credit, the gailieriug was a most successful o.ie. The fields were somewhat small, but the performances as revealed liv the times show that the racing was good, and some close finishes resulted. the course being in perfect order. The public attendance considerably swelled during the afternoon, and provided the "tote" permit is available nest year Ihe success of trotting in the Norrh is assured. Inderthe guidance of the president (Mr. A. E. McMahoni and the secretary i.Mr. It.
