SOCIAL JOTTINGS. Lady Fenwiek is in Auckland, on a. visit to her son, Dr. George Fenwick. Mr. and Mrs. H. Jones, of Ransiora, Canterbury, are paying an extended visit to Auckland. Mrs. W. G. —tind, of Wellington, is to be the guest of Mrs. A. E. M. Rhind, Sharpe Road, Epsom. Dr. and Mrs. Mason, of Lower Hutt, Wellington, are visiting Auckland, and staying with relatives. Mies Maggie Logan, who returned from England by the Niagara, is the guest of Mrs. Charles Brawn, Parnell. Mrs. W. Brown, of Wellington, has taken Mr. and Mrs. L. Wilson's house in Auckland, during the latter's absence in England. On her way through to Taupo and Rotorua from Wellington, her Excellency Lady Jellicoe spent a day or two in Hastings, during which time she was the gueet of Miss Williams, at Frimley. Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Jenkins, Mis* Jenkins and Master Jenkins, formerly of Orakei Road, Remuera, left Auckland on Thursday last to join the s.s. Tahiti at Wellington on an extended tour ofAmerica, England and Europe. A through passenger by the Niagara was Lady witLo-w of Mr. Justice Hood, of Melbourne. Lady Hood has been spending some months with her daughter in - the United States and Canada, and is now returning to her home in Melbourne. "Colour," the monthly magazine " which does so much excellent reproduction in colour, gives in its February number a reproduction oj a landscape' ' in oils by Mr. R. S. Hellaby, of Auckland. It is entitled _are-wood Downs, Bucks," and shows a sweeping stretch of wooded English downland. Miss Mowbray, president of the Hos- . pitality Committee of the Victoria League, invited a number of guests on Saturday meet Mrs. Chat- ; field, lady editor of the Post,"' Wellington, who is in Auckland on holiday leave, and is engaged in organising community clubs for the Territorialboys. Mrs. Chatfield addressed thoea present on the subject, and was accorded much sympathy. , At the presentation to Miss R. Dawson by the executive of the Auckland Women's Club, Mrs. Farkes, acting' president, took the occasion to convey the, appreciation of the committee at the very valuable services rendered during nine months when Miss Dawson acted aa honorary secretary. This imposed arduous .and unremitting work upon her, which ehe had carried through with conspicuous ability. A letter to this effect signed by all the executive | accompanied the leather suit case with i which she was presented. Last Friday afternoon Mrs. Bull, in conjunction with"" Mrs. Lewins, gave a drawing room concert at her residence. Lake Road, Takapuna, for the Belmont School Queen Carnival (standard 111. queen, Miss Marie Corner). A very enjoyable programme was arranged; songs by Mesdames Lewins, Edmonds and Albert, pianoforte solos by Miss Mactier, Miss Lewins ami Mrs. J. Buchanan, instrumental trios by Miss MactieT, Miss Reid and Mrs. Edmonds, humorous readings by Mrs. Bull, and recitations by Kathleen and Jean Bull. Amongst the guests were Mesdames W. Buchanan, J. Buchanan, Reid, S. Arthur, C. Arthur, Sinclair, Watson, Coulthard, Albert, the Misses Buchanan. Garroway, Sims, Reid, Lewins, Prior, Mactier and Stronach. The marriage took 4 place on April 5. at St. Peter's Church, Onehunga, of Miss Geraldine Edgerley, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Edgerley, of Epsom, to Mr. Irwin Crookes, elder son of Mr. , and Mrs. S. I. Crookes, of Maungawhau Road. The church was tastefully decorated by girl friends of the bride fori the occasion. The bride, who was given: away by her father, looked charming mi pale pink georgette, embroidered with, pearls over taffeta silk, with hand-em-broidered veil, and carried a bouquet oE pale pink roses and carnations. Miss Arlinc Edgerley, sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid, wearing primrosu taffeta and georgette, "with black panne velvet hat. relieved with touches of primrose. She carried a bouquet of dahlias. I McCallum was best man. A reception, was held at; the residence of the bride's parents, after which the bride and bridegroom departed for the South on their wedding tour. WAIKATO NOTES. : Airs. Jones is at present staying witl her mother, Mrs. L. Cussen. Mrs. Sher' bet, of Auckland, is staying -with her sister. Mrs. A. W. Green, at RuakuraThe Mieees Jolly have returned frora their holiday. Mrs. Ellis is at present visiting Mrs. A. Day, Claudelands. Mrs. Easton and Miss McKay have been spending a short holiday in Hamilton as the gueste of Mrs. F. J. Wilson. A croquet tournament organised by the Frankton Club was a great success. Mrs. Belgravc had charge of the tournament arrangements, and great- praise is due to her, us everythinjr went off with a perfect swing during £he week's play. Tbe catering for the luncheon and teas was left to Mesdames Steele and Hungar, who looked after the comfort of visitors. Tbe competitors, as a token of appreciation, asked them at the close of the play to accept a handsome book each. The green-keeper was also asked to accept a small present, as the green* were in perfect order. Mr. Johnson, the president, in making the presentations, spoke highly of the good work done. A few of those present during the tournament were Mesdames F. -Tolly, G. Hyde, Higgins, Meilsop, Manson, T. Jolly. Philpot, McGregor, McArthur, Parker, W. W. Dillicar, Galloway, McDermott. Moorhouse, Irvine, Andrew?, W. IT. Stevens, Lourie, Dunn, P. E. Stevens, Fraser, Smith, Blyth, Otto, Forbes. Tctman, Simmonds, Powell, Hungar, Turbot, Hodgkinson, Warneford, Kenah, Coombes, Brown, and McArthur and M-ssea Matherson and Murry. The Mathers' Thought League held its monthly meeting on Friday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. H. J. Greenslade. Mrs. Provis occupied the chair. An overture was played by Mrs. Fox, Mrs. Arthur sang. Afternoon tea was then 6erved, and afterwards Mrs. Haber Harrison read a thoughtful paper on the effect of early impressions on children. Mrs. Martyn Williams and Mrs. A. W. Green gave a recitation. Mrs. Lonsdale gave two solos. Mrs. J. McKinnon sang. A little dance was organised by s few of tbe young people and was held last Monday evening in St. Peter's Hall. 1 Amongst those present were: Mrs. A. J. Bond, and Misses S. Ring, Kimble, D.
