Mr. W. Wallace Kidd, who has been secretary of the Grammar Schools Board for over 29 years, i> retiring from the position. During his tenure of office' he was never absent through sickness.
Mr. L. A. Mander, M.A., recently appointed tutor-organiser of the Auckland Workers' Educational Association, has arrived from Sydney. He was a member of the staff of the University of Adelaide.
Mr. arid Mrs. Martin Oldbury, wellknown residents of Kawhia, left by the Monraki this afternoon for Sydney, where they take the R.M.s. Osterley for an extended visit tc Knglan/J and the Continent, returning via America.
Mr. IT. A. Anderson was yesterday admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court by Mr. Justice Reed, en the motion of Mr. Quartly. Mr. X. R. W. Thomas was admitted as a barrister, also on tho motion of Mr. Quartly.
A high tribute was paid to Mr. J. Boddie, who is shortly leaving on a visit to Knglajid, by the chairman (Mr. E. C. Banks) at the Education Board's meeting yesterday, when Mr. Boddie was granted five months' leave of absence.
Messrs. J. ?• Bond and W. G. Murray were re-elected governors of the Auckland Grammar School at yesterday's meeting of the Education Board Messrs. C'arruth and Crawford were also reelected governors of the Whangarei High School.
Mr. 0. E. Burton, 8.A.. lias been appointed by the New Zealand Alliance as special organiser in connection with work among young people, the churches, and generally to organise for the Prohibition party in view—of the forthcoming poll.
Mr. John Milward. manager of the Pacific Cable' Board, accompanied by Mrs. Mihvard, is staying at the Star Hotel. On Thursday Mr" Milward goes on to Fiji, en route for Canada and the Old Country.

Wells have been elected by ballot to attend the Xevv Zealand Educational Institute annual meeting in Wellington in May.
•Sir Bassett Edwards, who has not been in good health since his retirement from the Bench, and who has been absent from Wellington for some time, partly for a change and partly on business, returned to Wellington recently. His health has improved, but he is advised by his doctor that he miwt take a complete rest 'and change of scene, and he has taken passages for himself and Miss Edwards by the s.s. Corinthir. Lady Edwards will join her husband and daughter in Kurope :n the couree of a month or so. as soon as she has been able to make arrangements with reference tii hor properties in Wellington.
