A GENERAL ADVANCE. GOOD CLEARANCE EFFECTED. ', (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON.. Wednesday. The fifth wool sale or the season was ■held to-day, and is considered to have been the ino=t satisfactory that has taken place since the requisition. The results surpassed expectations. The total offering >vas 1500 bales, or some 400 lese than »ii put up at th<» last sale on March 10. but in view of the late stage of the season, the entry , was rao=t satisfactory. There was a. full bench of buyer*, representing Bradford, Yorkshire. Belgium, France, Germany, America, Japan, and Dominion milLs. Competition throughout was strong, keen, and vigorous. The selection of wool wae very good for this time of the year. Crossbred wools predominated, and all that was offered, w:th the exception of only four lots, was , readily disposed of.

Brokers advieed a fairly general advance of Ad, while for wool passed ia lots from the previous 6ale a considerably higher rice was recorded. Lambs' woo! was eagerly competed for. not only toy France, but by Dominion mills-

The highest prices of the series were obtained, as much as lid and Hid being paid for some good lots of Romney and Down lambs' wool. The price* realised for pieces, bellies, locks, and crufcchiage were all equal to those recorded last month, if not a little better.

The range of prices was:—Merinos: Inferior, 13d to 14Jd. Medium half-bred: Super, 12Jd to 14|d; average. lOid to 12Ad; inferior, 8d to 9£d. Coarser"halfbred: Average, SJd to lOid; inferior, 7d to BJd. CoTriedale: Average, IOJd to 12Jd; inferior, B£d to 9fd. Fine crossbred: Super, 9d to lOJd; average, 7Jd to 9}d; inferior, 5d to 6Jd. Medium crossbred: Super, 8d to 9Jd; average, 6d to 7fd; inferior od to 6d. Coarse crossbred: Super, 6d to 7£d; average, 5Jd to 7d; inferior. 4d to ssd. Low crossbred: Super, 5d to 6Jd; average 4Jd to 5Jd; inferior, 4d to 4sd. Hoggets: Fine, 8d to 9Jd; medium, 6d to BJd; coaT>3e, 5d to low, 4d to 5Jd. Lambs: Down, 10d to ll}d; fine, 8d to lOJd: medium, 6Ad( to BJd. Seedy and inferior, all grade!, M to sd. Bellies and pieces: Halfbred, good to super, 6Jd to 7|d; halfbred, low to medium, 4Jd to 6d. Crossbred, good to super, 3i«d to ad; croeebred, to medium, ljd to 3d. Crutchings: Medium to good, 3d to 4£d; inferior and seedy, to 2£d. Locks: Merino,, 2id to 3Jd; crossbred, lid to 2d.
