REPARATION PAYMENTS.
KEICHSTAG SUPPORTS WIRTH. HEREIN, April 2. The Keieiistag, by TI4S votes to 191, expressed confidence in the attitude of Dr. Wirth (Imperial Chancellor) regarding reparations. This is the most en> phatic vote since the revolution.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
Speaking in tin- Roic!isfJ.g last week, Dr. Wirth denounced the demands of th« Reparation Commission. Tile Allies' demand for a further 60,000,000,000 marks by fresh taxation, he said, was an impossible condition. Germany was a Parliamentary country, and the Reichstag could not impose such burdens on the people without consulting them. It was not possible to raise a fraction of this sum: it. was scarcely possible to raise another 1i0.000.000 marks. It seemed that the idea was abroad that Germany was extravagant, but she was doing everything to restrict her expenditure. Stabilisation of the mark was impossible without an international loan and revision of the Versailles Treaty.
