C HUBCrT ASf_\LVERSARIB«>. The seventieth anniversary of the Congregational Church now in Beresford 'Street, but originally of Albert. Street, was celebrated by special services yesterday. The Rev. A. B. Chappell. M.A.. preached on "The Church aan Enterprise" at the morning service. and the Rev. Frederic Warner on ''WiiLt is Right With the Church at night. The evening service was preceded by a recital Ors the organ. During the service solos were rendered by Madame Chamber.-, Mrs. J. Bailey arid Mr. -J. Littler.

ST. JAMES' DtLAMO-ND JUBILEE. Large congregations attended the diamond jubilee services of St. James Presbyterian Church. Wellington Street. There were many "frosty pows ' amongst those present. The Rev. ./. Robertson, Orr, of St. Andrew's, Wellington, was the preacher for the day. Tbe Rev. George Brown, now in his Oiind year, read the Scripture and pronounced the benediction. 'Mr. Orr, in the course of the morning sermon, speaking on the text "But they mace light of it," said that might be taken as a definition or the present-day attitude towards things sacred and religious. He contended that home life was not what it used to be. 'He regretted the drift from the type oi life of half a century ago on the part of women. He said no one had yet. danced his way to Heaven, or laughed 'his way to victory. He said the Church had a sacred trust, and should act as a steadying influence in the community. This evening there will be a church reunion, at which the speakers will be Mr. J. H. Gunson, Rev. Robertson Orr, Rev. Lamb Harvey and others.
