THR.EE MONTHS FOR VAGRANCY. William Betts, a familiar figure in the Court, was arraigned for being a rogue and a vagabond. He said he was nearly seventy. Betts was ordered to renew his acquaintance with the inside of Mount Eden prison, and to stay there for three months, which will just tide him over the winter.. UNREGISTERED. William Hector McQuoid (Mr. Off. phant) tried to commit suicide on March 25. His liberty was applied for pending the hearing of the case on Monday, bnt the police reported that McQuoid's pre* sent condition made it possible that if he were free the lives of other people might be in danger. Another attempted suicide subject was Thomas Cronin (Mr. Ray), who came back with a splendid record and also the nervous effect of being gassed and wounded. His sister offered to take charge of him, and he was convicted and discharged upon payment of 22/ expenses. STOLEN GOODS. Frank Joseph Wood and Harold Joseph Whittle were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on charges that they stole from the launch Islay two rugs, a barometer, a watch, a pack of cards, a tin of benzine and lubricating oil, all these things being valued at £7 10/; also that at Frankton Junction they stole from Arthur Beale his motor car and seven gallons of benzine, of a value of fofiO. A MONTH IN GAQL. James John McMahon, the man who told the financial story last week, when in the dock accused of stealing a kitbag worth 30/ and a razor 6trop valued at 8/, appeared again. The doctor"* report was that his condition last week was due to the excessive use of alcohol He was sent to gaol for one month.
