CLOSE TO A STRONG MARKET.

HIGHER PRICE FOR CROSSBRED

LONDON, March 31

At the wool sales, wheh closed to-day, 215.00G bales were offered, and practically all sold. The most striking feature was the German demand lor meruios. which hardened consistently throughout. Faulty and burry merinos were somewhat irregular on the closing days, but quotations iTere not materially altered. Best combing merinos and ail scoureds closed fully at the level of the highest January rates. Fine crossbreds were fully equal to the highest January rates. Medium and lower sorts met with a wider and stronger demand, and closed at 5 to "J per cent above the* January rates. Scoured crossbreds and slipes were keenly competed for, and show an advance of fully 10 per cent. Lambs' wool was in strong demand. Fine merinos advanced 10 per cent, and crossbreds and faulty merinos 5 par cent. The Bradford wool market is very firm. Tops are quote as follow: 64's 4/3, .">o*s 2/4. 50's 1/81, 46's 1/2*.—(A. and N.Z.) The Xew Zealand Loan nnd Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following cablegram from its London house, under date March 30: — The wool sales closed firmly to-day. Compared with last sales' closing rates prices are about par to .1 per cent higher for greasy and scoured merino super, and about 5 per cent* higher for merino lambit, while medium and coarse greasy crossbreds arc about par to 5 per cent lower, others unchanged. Average current London values of the under-noted descriptions of Now Zealand greasy wool are: Rood merino 20d, medium merino 17* d, inferior merino 14-d. fine crossbred 16d, medium crossbreds BM, coarse crossbred (40's) OJd, coarse crossbred (36's) 5Jd. — (A. and N.Z. TEE ADELAIDE SALES. (Received 12.30 p.m.) ADELAIDE, this day. A feature of the' wool sales was the advancement on prices ruling over the last series. Merinos and crossbreds arc 15 per tent higher than the February sales. Yorkshire secured the largest proportion offering.— (A. and N.Z.)
