PERSONAL.

Major Brown, of Gisborne, arrived from Russell to-day and is staying at the Albert.

Dr. and Mrs. Campbell, of Whangarei, are on a visit to Auckland and are staying at the Central. Sir James and Lady Carroll arrived this morning from Russell, where they attended the opening of the hall erected to commemorate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. They are stopping at the Albert.

Mr. P. Dclany, of the Grand Hotel, who is leaving Te Aroha shortly, was this week presented by his friends with a Doulton afternoon tea set, and by the Foresters' Lodge with a gold mounted Waterman pen.

Mr. T. 0. Bishop has been„appointed acting-secretaTy of the Employers' Federation. He will appear on "behalf of the employers in the Arbitration Court next month, when the question regarding the cost-of-living bonus will be discussed.

Mr. Amos Tomlinson, High Chief Ruler of the Independent Order of .Rechabites, and Mr. J. H. Lear Caton, Past High Chief Ruler, who are visiting New Zealand, left Auckland this morning for Rotorua in company with New Zealand delegates and officers appointed by the No. S4 (Auckland) District Council. They will later proceed to Wellington to attend the jubilee meetings of the New Zealand central district next Wednesday.

Mr. S. E. D. Neill, Consular Agent for France, returns to Dunedin this week after an absence of 12 months in the Old Country.

Representations have been made to Mr. J. P. Brandon, Mayor of Otaki, and formerly of Masterton, to allow himself to 'be nominated as a candidate for the Otaki seat at the general election.

Dr. A. E. Park, who ha 6 recently retired from the position of assistant house surgeon at the Wellington Hospital, leaves next month for Britain to continue his studies.
