| THE CANCELLED VISIT. N.Z. RUGBY UNION'S PROPOSAL. A SHORTER PROGRAMME. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Owing to public disappointment at the French Rugby Union's decision to cancel tlie projected New Zealand tour, the New Zealand Rugby Union is anxious to secure reconsideration of the matter by the French, and lias already discussed and agreed to a modified programme that would enaJble the Frenchmen to return home in time for their own championships. The curtailed programme would include 14 matches, of which three would be tests. The Management Committee has cabled to the French Union, stating that grave disappointment prevails here at its decisioo, and asking if tile union will reconsider a modification of the tour to enable the team to return in time for the local championships. An urgent reply is requested so that if it is favourable arrangements for the tour can,proceed.
