BOY'S TOTE TICKET.
MACHINE CLERK FIXED. (15}- Telegraph—Own Correspondent .1 HAMILTON, Monday. Allan John McGregor, of Auckland, appeared at the Magistrate's Court, Hamilton, yesterday, charged with having sold a totalizator ticket to a boy under the age of 21 years on the first day of the recent Hamilton races. Mr. E. 11. Xorthcroft appeared for the defendant and entered n (ilea of guilty. Senior-Scrgrant Mnthew, said that a yo;ith of 18 years went up to the )0/ totalizator and procured a ticket. The boy was at. the time dressed in a cadet uniform, and it was quite apparent that he wae under the prescribed age limit. McGregor subsequently admitted that he had issued the ticket. Mr Xorthcroft in asking for lenient treatment stated that amid the rush and pressure of business it was extremely difficult to keep a very vigilant look-out for '.'infants." Mr. H. A. Young. S.M., said apparently the legislature viewed the offence of totalisator employees issuing tickets' to juveniles in a very serious light, for a penalty of .€IOO was prescribed, or three months' imprisonment without the option of a fine. In the present cr6c it would be suflieient if defendant was fined £10 and ordered to pay the costs.
