As the result of a disturbance on Saturday evening in the shop of K.Wong Yang and Co., Chinese fruiterers. Vie- j toria Street, a man named William j Grahame is now an inmate of tlie Wnikato Hospital. ' Conflicting reports arc current as to. what actually happened, but it appears . that Grahame and a companion entered j the shop about 11.30 on a quest for'cigarettes. The shop is managed by On 1 Ah Wai. The callers were informed that i cigarettes were not stocked. j What is plain is that some disturb- i | since took place, and that a butcher's I ! knife came into commission. A young I ' man who was passing the premises just ( |ns Grahame rushed out heard his call! for help and conveyed Grahame to the i hospital. He had very severe cuts, one extending from his right thumb across the hand to the little linger, which was almost, severed. The story told by the Chinese is that a Chinese boy was set upon, and the I latter s a y s ] lf . picked \t\, the knife to i defend himself. Grahame grabbed the ! razor-like blade, and sustained the j injuries he received.
