A RELIABILITY TEST. The first of a series of three competitions for the Harley-Davidsou Shield was he'd ou Saturday afternoon, wnen a reliability trial to Mercer and back was run. A large cumber of competitors faced the starter t and the first machine was dispatched act 1.4S p.m. The trial was keenly contested throu-h- I out by all .-o—petlto—. Most of the riders ' finished with the loss of only a few points, I and all are stUl well in the running fur the shield. The total points allotted for tiie I competition were s<>. Mr. W. Mattsou. scored the maximum. _nd Mr P Nash was I second, scoring 411* points. Both the pri_7 winners rode side-car machines. The rider ' of the solo machine to obtain the highest I points for the gold medal presented by Messrs. Merson Bros., was Mr G s <' ar " I tens, who scored 40 points out of a no<--ble ---». Mr. A. Powell was second with ' 1471 points, au,l Mr. MvLaren third with 47 I points. i
