Two years' probation was extended to ! a youth of eighteen by "Mi. Justice Hcrdman at the Supreme Court this morning. Accused had pleaded guilty : to the theft of the sum of £54 19/10 ; while in the service of Bamford and Brown, solicitors. His Honor stated, in reply to Mr. { Moody, accused's counsel, that he intended to admit him to probation on account of his youth. He wanted it i understood, however, that where a per- ' son in a position of. trust a;bused that [ trust he did not intend to make it a ■ practice to grant probation, but in view of the good police report in this instance he felt justified in doing so.
