EX-POLICE COMMISSIONER.
MR. O'DONVAN FAREWELLED. (By TelegraiA.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The whole of the city and suburban police force paraded to-day to bid farewell to the late commissioner, Mr. J. O'Donovan. Eulogistic remarks were made respecting the late chief by Commissioner : Wright, Superintendent Norwood, and Inspector Mcllveney, each of whom laid stress on the fact that Mr. O'Donovan had endeared- himself to every member of the force by his honesty of purpose and uprightness. Addressing the men, Mr. O'Donovan said he had spent most of his life in the force, and had the honour to leave behind him a force that would be a credit to any country in the world. He was satisfied the public appreciated the work accomplished by the force. Addressing the officers, he stated there were strennous times ahead, but he felt confident they would be equal to any contingency that may arise.
Mr. O'Donovan was presented with a substantia! cheque.
Mr. Madden, speaking for the Civil Service portion of the staff, paid a warm tribute to Mr. O'Donovan for the courteous manner in which the staff had been treated.
