LEAGUE OF NATIONS.

UTILITY QUESTIONED. PRIME MTXTSTER'S fXUPfpORT. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter) "SA'EiLTANGTON, Thursday. Tlie question of whether New Zealand's expenditure on the League of Nations is justifiable was raised by Mr. Clut-ha Mackenzie in the House to-day, when he asked if the Dominion is still paying £ -2.5 000 annually to that body. Mt. Mackenzie added that in view of the fact that tho League of Nations is fading in the field of international politics, its place being taken by pacts and conferences, that New Zealand's contribution might be reduced to £20,000 annually. "I don't agree with the opinion expressed about the utility of the League," replied Mr. Massey, who added that he had just received information that New Zealand's contribution to the League in 1020-1021 was £1048. and last year, to December 31, £82fll. The total amoi.'nt paid so far to the League by New Zealand was £ 10.200. He could not agree with the opinion expressed about the. League, as although he was anxious to save expenditure everywhere he waa also anxious to do everything possible to promote peace. If at a later date he found it necessary to revise the position he would make a recommendation to the Houte.
