ARBUCKLE TRIAL.
DEFENCE SURE OF VERDICT. CS4P., NEARING END. (Received 10.30 a.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, January 26. At to-day's hearing of the charge of manslaughter against Roseoe. Arbuckle, the cinema actor, one of the maids at the hotel where the fata! party was held stated that 'she had cleaned the door knobs of the suite used by Arbuckle and his guests. The object of the defence in bringing this evidence before tbe Court is to discount the evidence Af the prosecution concerning the finding of Arbuckle's finger prints on the knob of the door leading to the room occupied by Miss Virginia jjappe. the woman whose death Arbuckle is alleged to have caused. The counsel for the prosecution is now trying to negative tills maid-servant's testimony on the ground that she is insane. The defence is rapidly bringing its case to a conclusion, and counsel seem certain of victory.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
