A FOOLISH CAREER. • 1 (Received 10 a.m.) 1 LONDON, January 26. ' During an inquest on the body of a . Mrs. Irene Welsh, a widow, who committed suicide hy jumping from tlie < window of a Kensington boarding-house, it was stated that her first husband was ( a New Zealand soldier who had been t killed at the war. For two year 3 the New Zealand Government generously I allowed her a pension. It was stated that Mrs. Welsh bad had a capital of ' £3,000, but had spent or lost it all, i mainly in fraudulent investment. On one -i occasion she gave 50gs in consideration of a promise that she could understudy Gladys Cooper, the famous actress.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
