ROTARY CLUB'S PARTY.
APPRECIATED BY CHILDREN. BOOKS VERY POPULAR. It is hoped to make an annual event of the Rotary Club's entertainment to a large number of the poorer children of Auckland. After the gifts were distributed yesterday afternoon in the Town Hall the Rev. F. R. Jeffreys thanked the members for the splendid entertainment they had given the children. He mentioned that the social workers with which he was connected had in previous years endeavoured to give the children a treat, but of course it was quite beyond their means to do anything on the scale as that which the club had provided. The Hon. G. Fowlds, president of the club, said the club was very much indebted to the. social workers for getting the children together, and also to Mr. Pearson, superintendent of the. city parks, for providing the Christmas tree and also for the decorations which made the hall so bright. It was noted by members of the club who tool; part in the distribution of the gifts that a considerable proportion of the children chose books. The selection of a gift was lcit to themselves, and of I their own volition quite a number preferred books to any of the other things which children seem, to affect.
