RIMU'S ROUGH TRIP.

DECK CARGO WASHED AWAY. FOREHOLD FLOODED. The steamer Rimu shipped a heavy sea on Monday night when crossing the Manukau bar outward bound from Onehunga to Raglan and Kawhia, and had a rough passage all the way. When she was approaching the end of the channel through the bar a heavy sea came up and struck the sandbank, and the recoil enveloped the steamer from stem to stern. The deck on the starboard side was damaged, causing a rush of water into the hold, which was flooded to a depth of four feet. The cargo was also damaged and the deck cargo washed overboard. Big seas swept the vessel, and reaching the bridge deck, tore the doors of the companionways off their hinges and flooded the saloon. Temporary repairs were effected at Kawhia, and the steamer returned to Onehunga last night, about midnight having been stuck on a mudbank for some hours owing to the low tide in the Manulca-U Harbour. The damaged cargo was removed this morning and sent back to Auckland, where the Rimu will come' to be repaired.
