Boppe, a wealthy ex-Inspector of Forests, in tlie Nancy district, ro.veals incredible treatment of a self-sacrificing wife, who is a niece of Maurice Barrcs, the novelist. Boppe, for the sake of an intripue with, a t*irl when stationed at Epinal (luring the war. twice conspired to poi?on liis wife under the guise- of affection with cyanide. The plot was revealed by his children, but the wife forgave him. loiter Boppe shot her t>#iop in bod with a. revolver, simulating-Miieidal appearance. The wife was operated upin and recovered, but was pcrnxincntl y disfigured, and she again forpave him a.nd endorsed his story that she attempted suicide.
