Tlie Ponson'ay Cruising i"lub held races on Saturday for the larger <hoats and launches to Arkle's Bay and harbour races for ithe three 14-foot olaases. There was a liard breeze blowing from due west, which gave a lot of trouble to the crews of the small boats, one of •which, Ola HI.. <-apslzed ' off 'N'ortihcote Point when lyiutf second in the race for the one-design class,' which necessitates a ..re-sail, •Great interest was taken in the race for the one-design class, for wnivh there were 13 starters. It -was a pretty start, all being well placed at gunfire. Des«rt Gold slowly drew away from the others, and repeated her performance of the opening day, leading all round the course. The following are the details of the racing:—
General Handicap.—This race was sent off at 2.85 p.m., the entries being Queenie. Waitere, Sadie. Starlight. Wairlki. Kotcre, Omatere. Mavbelle, Marie, Valeria, Forest Gold, Colonist. Lovelight, 'Lucille, Yemis, Waiapu, Mowai, Xgnro, •Uoueu. trloaming, and Xgawa.
From a good start Waiapu ■went aca'OSS the line first, closely fallowed by Waitero, •Valeria, 'StarlliiQit, il>oveliglit, Omatere, Marie. Forest Oold. Queenie, and 'Mowai. iMaybelle followed 3J minutes late, Colonist 4 minutes, ;Wairiki"4 mins. lo sees., and Sadie 5 mins. All set spinnakers for the flat run to 'North Head, from where it was a lead to the finishing line, off Arkle's Bay. Waitere was. leading down harbour, with -Starlight eeeond, and a good race between ■these boats ensued all the .way. Tln> finishing 'times were: Waitere 11. Launches. —This race was sent on* a-t 2.-13 p.m., the starters Countess. Lot>w Victor, LAlwyn, Klla. Surf, and Kufbryn X.. in this order. Surf and Loew Vtetor sooa went ahead, and this was the ordiir round XorMi Head. On time allowance Ella is first, Kathryn K. secoml, and Surf third.
14-Foot One-Design Class. There were seventeen entries in this class, and thirteen starters. The race was sent off at 3 p.m., Betty being first away, closely followed by Ola 111.. lionii. Idler, Resolute. 'Viper, Desert Gold. Meteor, Kyrta. All Black. Joan, and .Snipe, with 'Shirley very late. The direction of the wind gave « dead slog to thti mark off the Watchman, and all worked short boards in the 'tideway. 'Desert Gold, Betty, Kesolute, and Ola soou Jiad a lead from the others, and by the time 'the top mark was reached the issue was hardly in doubt, for IDesert Gold again proved lier superiority in n hard breeze, and slowly but surely ■worked out ahead of the fleet, rounding the mark nearly two inluutes to the good. All set spinnakers for the run to 'the Nortncote mark, Desert Cold rounding -this -with a iead ) of 2 rains, r> sees.
