ELUSIVE MR. LEE.
OUTWITS MR. WILFOKD. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The Minister in charge of Industries and Commerce proved particularly elnsivc when Mr. Wilford put a question without notice to him regarding benzine. Mr. Wilford asked Mr. Lee if he had read a circular from three large importing houses «n reference to the Customs tariff; this to the effect that these three companies did not intend at the present time to alter the prices, but quite probably a rise -would come into force in the "near future. The circular advised clients to get in stocks at once for the next 60 days. Mr. Parr: Who are the "Big Throe"'
Mr. Wilford: British Oil Company (Shell), the Vacuum Oil Compan?. which was not a subsidiary company of the Standard Oil but he nnderstoj'l tho representative of the American Company, And A. R. Patterson, which he understood represented the Petroleum Produe's Company. Mr. Lee: I understand the honourable meml)er is asking mc if I hare read the circular? Mr. Wilford: Yes. Mr. Lee: Well, I hare real it. (Laughter.)
