DISFIGURING THE WATER FRONT.

PROTEST TO THE HARBOUR BOARD.

Tbe following Petition to the Harbour Board, protesting against the erection of old sheds for .sf cved'orcs' g"onr T on Quay Street, received the attached signatures in the course of three days. Requests for copies of the Petition have come from various parts of the City, and thousands of signature* could be readily obtained:— To the Chnirmnn and Members of the Auckland Harbour Bonrel. "As Citizens and Mercantile Firms of Aui'klnml, we earnestly desire to ask you to reconsider your decision to erect an unsightly galvanised iron shed on the harbour'front In Quay Street KMst, In c-loee proximity to Queen Street. We respectfully point out that such a structure will seriously distigure our City, and will also prove ii danger to adjacent business premises and shipping as a breeding place for rats. Further, that its .proximity to the berth usually reserved for mail steamers nnd overrens* shipping of. the highest class is calculated to create a most unfavourable impression upon the mintls of new arrivals. T nat iii no i>urt of the building area within the jurisdiction of the 'CTity- Council, would a permit for such a building be granted, and Its erection at the very entrance to otir City will uot reflect credit upou the administration of the port, or the regulations controlling the construction of public buildings.
