Black Boot Polish.—Dissolve }lb of glue in half a pint of water, 2oz or brown sugar, lloz of dissolved arabic ill> each pulverised indigo, lamp black,'and ivory black, and one teaspoonful of glycerine. Heat the mixture over a slowfire until it just boils, stirring it well. Remove from the fire, then stir till cold and store in small air-tight tins. To make a g-ood cedar polish, which is a simple but reliable stain: Place 1 pint of methylated spirits and 3oz of orange shellac in a stoppered bottle, and shake at intervals until thoroughly dissolved. Add ioz of Bismarck brown and Joz of nigrosin, stir well, and pass through a fine strainer. The stain and varnish are then ready. By varying the proportions of the colouring matter, oak or cedar colour may be obtained. If necessary to thin it, use methylated spirits.
