SPEEDING UP THE SESSION.
HOUSE TO SIT ON MONDAYS,
AFTER CHRISTMAS SITTINGS. (By Keporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. - There' was a very evident desire on the part of members to speed up _the work of the session when the Premier moved that from December 5 the House sit on Monday evenings. The first query put ..'to the ■, Premier wae what possibility there was of finishing before Christmas, because- if not, little was to be gained by sitting on Mondays. Mr. Massey retorted that it would be pushing work on and caving time at the other end. •Mr. George' Forbes: Well, why not eit at'2.3o p.m.? Mr. W. E. Parry: What about Saturday sittings? Mr. F. Howard: Why not the Sabbath? Mr. Massey: We never break the Sabbath. There was a chorus of voices round the chamber' supporting the plea to sit at the usual afternoon hour on Monday, while Mr.- Isitt inquired if jtliere was any chance of finishing before; Christmas , if sittings were- held on Sainirday and Monday. ' To 'tßis the' Premier pointed out that Saturday was required for Cabinet eittinge. He touched upon vital questions of economy and retrenchment ahead, that made it apparent that the House •will assemble again after Christmas.
